Beautiful Sorrow_2007_ salt, branch_ 200*230*200(h)cm installed inside the salina in Trapani, Sicily 2007

The sky, sea and the mountains of Sicily were very beautiful.

However, different from the nature, the city was desolate, people were poor and tired.

The quite city surrounded by beautiful landscape looked very sad and beautiful to me, like the snowflake in the winter.

This piece is a salt tree made from salt, a noted product of Trapani.

I wanted to create the feelings of a snowflake and installed it in the middle of a salt farm.

Then with salt, I created the head of the last woman, the wife of Lott, of the disappeared city Sodom and Gomorrah, and put it in the middle of the tree branches. 

(the sea color at the salina changes every moment. the pink color means salt almost be done.)

The white snow becomes dirty as soon as they touch the ground. Then, their black tears flows on the ground.

Korean mothers spend their lives enduring many hardships. Their tearless sorrow makes peoples’ mind more aching.

The wife of Lott must have been very beautiful. She must have had many talents and lived a wealthy life. 

 

That might be the reason why she could not give up on everything at once.

Who could blame her?

I am also in a life like that.

After how many days, could the open sea be filled with salt?

For all of the beautiful sorrow in the world..

La neve bianca si contamina non appena tocca il suolo,

cosi lacrime scure scorrono sul terreno.

La maggior parte dwlle madri coreane vive la propria vita sopportando il dolore senza versare lacrime e questo da sempre commuove la gente.

La moglie di Lot, doveva essere une donna bellissima forse Lei era piena di talenti con una vita molto ricca.

Cosi fu molto duro lasciare tutto immediatament.

Chi puo biasimarla?

Anch'io sto vivendo una vita simile.

Quanti giorni di raccolta sono necessaru affinche il mare possa essere riempito di sale?

Per tutto il dolore del mondo..

* moglie di Lot: la donna che nel vecchio testamento fu tramutata in statua di sale perche si attardo a fuggire da Sodoma nel giorno della sua distruzione.

하얗게 내리던 눈은 땅에 닿는 순간부터 더러워진다. 때문에 땅에는 그들의 검은 눈물이 흐른다.

한국의 어머니들은 참음으로 그들의 인생을 보낸다.

때문에 그들의 눈물없는 슬픔은 사람들의 마음을 더욱 아프게한다.

롯의* 아내는 분명히 아름다운 여인이었을 것이다. 그녀는 수많은 재능과 부유한 삶을 살았을 것이다.

때문에 한번에 그 모든 것을 포기하기 힘들었을지 모른다.

누가 그녀를 탓할 수 있을까.

나 또한 그러한 인생 속에 있는 것을..

얼마나 많은 날들이 모이면, 저 넓은 바다를 소금으로 채울 수 있을까..

세상의 모든 아름다운 슬픔을 위해서..

 

롯의 아내: 구약의 파괴된 도시인 소돔과 고모라에서 탈출하기 전 뒤를 돌아봐 소금기둥으로 변한 여인..
 

사진엔 어떤 camera work도 주지 않았으며, 염전의 색은 매 순간 변한다. 핑크색은 이제 소금을 수확때를 의미한다.
