Project Dialogue _Archive (2009)
Many people in Korea tend to be aware of the way other people are looking at them, to respect honor, and to have strong group consciousness. Also, they tend to have dreams, a future, and a tendency formed by the social needs, rather than having and carrying forward thinking of themselves. For this reason, they are turned on and bound by competition. They forget the first happiness and dream, and have the same dream to keep their life covered with being conscious of the eyes of others. What makes them have an obsession with progress and development?
The problem was found in what they lost in their life. I believe there is a way to the future that they should head for in the future. I wondered when people close their hearts.
This was the beginning of Project Dialogue in 2009. First, I made a dialogue book from overhearing in a public place in Seoul. I sent it to 50 persons whose different jobs and generations, and asked them to take one dialogue and continue the dialogue in their ways. For instance, a psychiatrist continued the dialogue by medical reference, a radio DJ recommended a song, a poet wrote a wise saying, and a fortuneteller sent me back an amulet. I exhibited many people's different dialogues at Dialogue Archive, and the viewers continued the dialogues in their own ways.

I plan to divide dialogues from the Dialogue book and Dialogue Archive into five topics by high frequency and interest, and unveil the dialogues through experimental play, interview, space installation, and research with subject matter experts, expecting to create various results. This work started in 2009, and it may end in 2020.
Project 대화 (2009)
한국은 타인을 의식하고, 체면을 중시하며 집단의식이 강한 사회이다. 스스로의 생각을 이야기하고 추진하긴 보단 자신이 속해 있는 집단의 요구에 맞추어 개인의 꿈과 미래 그리고 성향을 만들어 간다. 때문에 지나치게 유행에 민감하며 경쟁에 얽매인다. 타인에게 보이기 위한 삶을 유지하느라 정작 개인의 행복과 꿈은 가장 먼저 버리고 모두가 같은 꿈을 갖고 살아간다. 우리는 어떤 삶을 살기 위해 이토록 진보와 발전에 급급한 걸까?
나는 이러한 문제를 ‘삶에서 잃어버린 것’에서 찾고자 했는데, 그것은 과거 안에 사람들이 나아가야 할 미래에 대한 길이 있다고 믿기 때문이다. 그리고 자연스러운 질문이 생겨났다. "사람들은 언제부터 자신의 속마음을 이야기하지 않게 된 걸까?" 이렇게 Project Dialogue(2009)는 시작됐다.
먼저 서울시내 공공장소에서 엿들은 일상대화로 대화집을 만들어 직업과 연령이 모두 다른 50명에게 보내 한 대화를 선택해 자신만의 방식으로 이어 나가 달라고 부탁했다. 정신과 의사는 소견서로, 라디오 DJ는 추천곡으로, 시인은 명언으로, 점쟁이는 부적을 보내 왔다. 다양하게 모은 사람들의 이야기를 가지고 Dialogue Archive 전시에 소개했고, 관객들은 이들의 답변에 대화를 이어 나갔다.

"당신이 벽을 느끼는 대화는 무엇입니까?"
자신의 대화에서 '벽'을 느끼는 대화가 무엇인지 조사해서, 대표적인 구절 몇 개를 전시장 통로에 설치했다.
선택된 대화>"네가 뭘 알아?", "그래서 어쩌라구","응, 알아","가만히 듣기만 해!", "NO!"," 엄만 아무것도 모르면서..", " 결론만 해!", "잘 알지도 못하면서.."," 너나 잘해", "상관하지마!"....
<Dialogue> 프로젝트는 ‘왜 사람들은 진심을 이야기하지 않을까’라는 삶의 궁금증에서 시작됐다. 우리 사회는 자신의 진심을 내보이지 않으면서 타인이 그를 몰라주면 서운해한다. 그러면서 당사자가 아닌 다른 이에게 고민을 이야기하고 위로를 받으며 그 사람으로부터는 멀어진다. 이 작업은 서울시내 공공장소에서 수집한 사람들의 일상적인 대화를 주재료로 삼고 있다.
2008.12~2009.3월까지 서울시내 공공장소에서 채집한 사람들의 대화를 모아 대화집을 만들었다. 결국 나와 당신, 우리가 이 이야기들의 주인공들이다. 평범한 이야기, 뻔한 결말, 매일 만나는 사람, 반복되는 일상이지만 다른 시선, 다른 질문 하나만으로도 우리의 삶은 달라질 수 있다.
드로잉 단상
내게 있어 드로잉은 생각을 구현해 내는 모든 과정의 기록이다. 개념은 모든 방향으로 열려 있으며, 수많은 가능성이 존재한다. 처음은 언제나 사소한 삶의 질문에서 시작된다. 그렇게 시작한 궁금증은 시나 음악 영화와 같이 다른 장르의 예술을 접하면서 감성이 풍부해지고, 자료를 조사하면서 구체화되고, 사람들에게 질문을 하면서 실현된다.
때론 서로 다른 아이디어가 공존하면서 환경과 사람에 따라서 전혀 다른 방향으로 전개되기도 한다. 마치 삶에서 누군가를 만나는가에 따라 인생이 변하는 것처럼 말이다. 삶에서 사람들은 수많은 계획을 세우지만 내일은 누구도 모르는 세계이다. 세상의 궁금한 것들을 찾아 나가는 것이 나의 삶이고 그 과정을 기록하는 것이 나의 드로잉이다. 그래서 내가 움직이고, 상상하고, 고민하고, 깨닫고, 변화하는 모든 과정이 그 내용이라면 나는 창조자가 아니라 기록자이며 수집가이다.

난 작품이 혼자 이야기하는 것을 좋아하지 않는다. 언제 어디서나 똑같은 모습으로 같은 이야기를 하고 싶지 않다. 마주하는 사람들과의 관계에서 새로운 의미가 만들어지길 바란다. 시간의 질서에서 살아 있는 모든 생물이 한순간도 같을 수 없고, 둘러싼 환경이 변하면 모습이 변하듯이, 작품 역시 그를 둘러싼 공간과 사람에 의해 변화해야 한다고 생각한다. 그들은 방관자가 아니라 현재의 모습을 가지게 한 한 부분이며, 작업은 그들과의 만남의 결과이다.

A Fragmentary Thought on Drawing (by Hyesoo Park)
For me, drawing is a record of every stage involved in giving form to my ideas. My work unfolds through concepts that remain open—full of directions and endless possibilities. It always begins with questions drawn from the trivial moments of everyday life. When I engage with poetry, music, or film, my work and sensibilities deepen and take on greater precision through material study, eventually crystallizing through reflection and inquiry. Different ideas often coexist and evolve into new directions, much like life itself shifts through the people we encounter. Though we make countless plans, no one truly knows what tomorrow holds. My life is an exploration of my curiosities, and my drawings are the chronicle of those explorations. If these processes record what I imagine, worry about, and come to understand, then I am not a creator so much as a chronicler—a collector.
This dialogue project begins with a simple question: “Why don’t people speak the truth?” When we reveal our true feelings, we hope to be understood; when we aren’t, we feel sorrow. The primary material for this project is everyday conversation, gathered from public spaces across Seoul. The protagonists in these dialogues are you and me. Though our lives are made up of ordinary stories, predictable endings, and everyday encounters, they can be transformed through a fresh perspective or an unexpected question. So I asked 50 people from various professions to engage in conversations—simple, casual, sometimes even playful. Their stories, once recontextualized, become narratives filled with meaning. Their responses allow me to see the world differently, reminding me that countless ways of living coexist within it.
I don’t want my work to speak alone, nor do I wish to repeat the same story in the same form. I seek new meanings that emerge only through relationships with others. Just as all living beings undergo metamorphosis in response to their surroundings, I believe a work of art also transforms according to its space and the people who encounter it. They are not bystanders, but essential presences that give shape to my work. Each piece is ultimately the result of those encounters.

Project Dialogue(2009)
수집된 엿들은 이야기에서 관련 전문가들의 이야기 그리고 관객의 이야기들이 합쳐지자 마치 카페에서 흔히 엿듣게되는 일상적인 '수다'와 같이 수많은 크고 작은 방대한 이야기들이 모여졌다.
내게 있어 드로잉이란 이런 것이었다. 되도록 모든 방향으로 귀를 열고 일단은 관찰하고 수집한 모든 것을 모아 놓는 것..
이 모여진 이야기들을 토대로 높은 빈도수와 개인적으로 관심 있는 주제를 가지고 관련 전문가들과 협업한 형태의 전시들을 선보일 계획이다.
