Many people in Korea tend to be aware of the way other people are looking at one, to respect honor, and to have strong group consciousness. Also they tend to have dream, future and tendency formed by the social needs, rather have and carry forward thinking of themselves own. For this reason, they are turned-on and bound by competition. They forget the first happiness and dream and have the same dream to keep their life covered with being conscious of the eyes of others. What makes them have the obsession about progress and development?

The problem was found at what they lost in their life. I believed there is a way to future where they should to head for in the found. I wondered since when people close their heart.
This was the beginning of Project Dialogue in 2009. First, I made a dialogues book from overhearing in a public place in Seoul. I send it various 50 persons whose different jobs and generations and made them take one dialogue and continue the dialogue in their ways. For instance, a psychiatrist continued the dialogue by medical reference, a radio DJ recommended a song, a poet wrote a wise saying and a fortuneteller send me back an amulet. I exhibited many people's different dialogues at Dialogue Archive, and the viewers continued the dialogues in their ways.

Project

이렇게 Project Dialogue(2009)는 시작됐다.

A Fragmentary Thought on Drawing  (by. Hyesoo Park)

For me, drawing chronicles all the processes involved in embodying my ideas. My work is based on concepts open to directions, with countless possibilities. It always begins from questions about trivial life. When I use a poem, music, or film, my art and my sensibilities become enriched, and specified through studying materials, finally achieved when questioned. Diverse ideas at times coexist and develop in another direction, as if life changes according to the people we meet. Although we make countless plans, nobody knows what will happen tomorrow. My life is the exploration of what I am wondering, and my drawing is the chronicle of the processes involved. If these processes record what I imagine, worry about, and realize, I am not a creator, but a chronicler, a collector.

This dialogue project begins from the question “Why don’t people speak the truth?” When we reveal our true heart, we expect others to understand us, otherwise we feel sad. This project’s primary material is daily conversation, collected from public spaces within Seoul. The protagonists in these dialogues are you and I. Even though our life consists of common stories, banal conclusions, and the people we meet everyday, it can become different through a fresh view, or a unique question. So I ask 50 people of diverse occupation to engage in extremely general, ordinary, even lighthearted conversation. They offer stories that, through their processing, become narratives of great significance. Their replies leave me looking at the world from a different perspective, realizing a wide variety of people live in this world.

I don’t want to make my work talk alone. I also don’t want to speak the same story in the same format. I wish for new meaning that can be formed anew in relations with other people. Just as all living creatures undergo a metamorphoses when their surroundings change, a work of art, I think, changes according to its surrounding space and people. These are not bystanders, but crucial beings, bringing form to Park’s work. Her work is the result of encounters with them.

Wall Story_2009_lettering on the wall_variable dimensions

I have researched some conversation 'what word have you felt dis-communication with people?'.
I have asked the answer to people with my website or e-mail. there are many stories collected.

Project Dialogue(2009)
