삶의 마지막 빛_스피커,형광등_가변크기_2009
Breathing, and blinking eyes, easy for healthy people, is like a struggle for those dying. I intend to represent the moment of death dramatically through breathing sounds and vibrations and a fluorescent lamp that blinks. This work takes its motif from my grandmother’s death in 2009.
죽음을 앞 둔 이의 마지막 순간을 나타낸 작업으로, 관객들은 아무것도 없는 방에서 바닥에 설치된 스피커에서 들리는 숨소리를 몸으로 느낄 수 있다. 불규칙적인 빛의 밝기를 가진 천정 가운데 설치된 형광등 역시 기계적 조작이 아닌 수명이 다되어가는 전구를 사용하여 극적인 분위기를 강조하고자 했다.
이 작업은 올 해 돌아가신 내 할머니의 마지막 순간에 대한 이야기이다.
Curator Comment
Hyesoo Park, who worked in conceptual installtion,using immateral elements such as fragrance, light and shadow, presents work emplying sound and waves in 'the lat light of life'. In this work Park represents the last moment of her grandma, on the verge of death. Audiences may feel the sound of a breath coming out of a speaker installed on the floor of a empty room whose wall is painted white.
As they feel sound through vibration, their response can be physical. The lamp (fluoresent light) on the ceilling flickers, not through mechanical manipulation, but as its life is at an end. The artist makes audience feel fragmentary thought and emotion that one has in their last moment. Inthis work, park presents an empty space filled with fragments of sense and concept, excluding mass as matter.

생의 마지막 빛
향, 빛, 그림자 등 비물질적 요소들을 이용해 개념적 설치작업을 해온 박혜수는 <생의 마지막 빛>에서 소리와 그로인한 파동을 이용한 작품을 선보인다. 작가는 자신의 할머니의 죽음을 통해 죽음을 앞 둔 이의 마지막 순간을 작품화 하고 있다.
관객들은 아무 것도 없는 상태의 하얀색으로 칠해진 방에서, 바닥에 설치된 스피커로부터 나오는 숨소리를 몸으로 느낄 수 있다. 바닥에 설치된 스피커로 인해 소리를 진동으로 느끼기에 신체적 반응과 감각을 이끌어낸다. 그리고 천정에 달린 전동이 불규칙한 깜박거림은 기계적 조작이 아닌 수명이 다되어가는 형광등이다.
이를 통해 작가는 인간의 마지막 순간의 감정, 생각의 단편들을 느끼게한다. 이 작품에서 작가는 덩어리로서의 물질은 완전히 사라진 채, 감각과 개년의 파편들로 가득찬 빈 공간을 보여주고 있다.
